Lux sedan returning with lower price tag: report
A report says Volkswagen is going to be relaunching the Phaeton fullsize luxury sedan in 2015.
According to UK publication Car, the second generation Phaeton almost made an appearance at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, but the showing was cancelled in order to focus on the electric Up! concepts.
The Phaeton Mk2 would be based around a new architecture which Car says makes provisions for a plug-in hybrid option and a new, less nose-heavy layout.
Though the Phaeton was priced closer to high-end European luxury sedans when it was released, the new model would cost less and would be positioned between the Audi A6 and A8. Engine options would include a 4-cylinder and two high-output 6-cylinders.
Car says different bodystyles besides the four-door sedan have been considered, including a five-door coupe and a three door notchback.
